Matla A Bokone Solar (RF) Pty Ltd is owned by IDEAS Fund managed by Old Mutual (SA) Ltd, Reatile Solar Power (RF) Pty Ltd, Phakwe Solar (RF) Pty Ltd, Business Venture Investments 1984, Cicada Community Trust.
The solar field comprises 261 360 polycrystalline silicon Suntec STP330-24/Vfw modules of 330 Wp (at STC), and has an installed capacity of 75MW.
It is situated in the Sol Plaatje Municipality, 19km outside Kimberley in the Northern Cape, and spans 278 hectares.
Land: 19km N NW of Kimberley on the remainder of Portion 1 of the farm Droogfontein No.62 within the Sol Plaatje Local Municipality.
Matla A Bokone Solar received Environmental Authorisation in June 2018.
Construction of the solar field commenced in October 2018.
Commercial Operation Date was achieved in March 2020.

The solar field is connected to Eskom’s Warthog switching station.
It generates approximately 75MW of clean, renewable energy to the national grid, addressing the ongoing and increasing need for electricity in South Africa.
The solar field produces enough green electricity to supply approximately 85 000 medium-sized South African homes, and in so doing avoids approximately 180 000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year when compared to traditional fossil fuel power fields.
Matla A Bokone Solar positively impacts the communities in the Sol Plaatje Municipal area, including Riverton, Barkly West, Kimberley Central, Boshof, Delportshoop, Galeshewe, Greenpoint, Holpan, Platfontein, Ritchie, Roodepan and Windsorton.
