Local education support continues to foster a positive learning environment among young learners across 17 primary schools in the Sol Plaatje and Dikgatlong Local Municipalities. Now in its sixth year, the programme has supported 2 500 Grade 1 learners transitioning into formal schooling by providing essential resources, with the introduction of educational storybooks alongside brand-new school bags, further strengthening early learning and literacy development.
Funded by Matla A Bokone Solar, the initiative forms part of the solar plant’s ongoing commitment to supporting education within its host communities.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to strengthening education and building meaningful partnerships within our communities. By working closely with the Department of Education, local suppliers, and community stakeholders, we are able to support learners as they begin their educational journey,” said Lesego Mosiane, Social Performance Practitioner for Matla A Bokone Solar.
Beyond the classroom, the initiative also delivered a positive local economic impact. A local black woman-owned SMME was contracted to supply the school bags, while temporary employment opportunities were created for three youth from the surrounding community during implementation.
Through this programme, Matla A Bokone Solar contributes to key Sustainable Development Goals, including Quality Education (SDG 4) and Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), reinforcing its commitment to sustainable community development.
