Matla A Bokone Solar project, a name meaning ‘Power of the Northern Region’ in Setswana, has welcomed local community member, Lesego Mosiane to its team.
As the Community Liaison Officer, Lesego is the bridge between the solar project and the surrounding beneficiary communities that include Barkly West, Riverton, Kimberley, Kimberley Central, Greenpoint, Galeshewe, Roodepan, Platfontein, Holpan, Delportshoop, Windsorton, Ritchie, and Boshof.
“It is my job to understand the issues facing community towns to ensure holistic management of development initiatives and to safeguard the partnerships with our stakeholders,” explained Lesego, who resides in the area that she will be working in.
“I am from the local community in which the Matla A Bokone Solar PV operates, which is pivotal as it is important for me to understand the communities and how they can be empowered,” she added.
She explains that the Socio-Economic Development aspect of the job is what attracted her, as she is interested in how community development programmes are implemented. Her first impression and understanding of the Sol Plaatje local communities is that increased levels of education is what is needed for young people the South Africa Economy to thrive.
