With a love for Mathematics, a local Kimberly resident, Tshepang Mabogo, is on her way to achieving her dreams of becoming an engineer, having recently graduated with a National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. A Matla A Bokone Solar scholarship recipient since 2022, Tshepang is continuing her academic journey by pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Mechanical Engineering at the Central University of Technology.
Tshepang, who is currently in her third year, expressed, “I always wanted my work to produce something tangible and to have outcomes that could be observed and help to solve problems. Engineering seemed like the best way to combine the fundamentally logical and analytical aspects of mathematics I loved while maintaining a firm grasp on reality and real-life solutions.”
Established four years ago, the scholarship programme supports and impacts students from Riverton, Barkly West, Kimberley Central, Boshof, Delportshoop, Galeshewe, Greenpoint, Holpan, Platfontein, Ritchie, Roodepan and Windsorton communities. It specifically targets learners within a 50km radius of the solar plant, providing them with the necessary financial and academic resources to further their education.
“Receiving this bursary has been the best thing. Not only has it assisted me financially, but it has also helped me see my potential and bring me closer to achieving my dreams,” added Tshepang.
Looking ahead, Tshepang is focused on completing her degree and securing a stable job where she can continue to assist and inspire those around her.
“We are incredibly proud of Tshepang Mabogo’s accomplishments and her unwavering dedication to her studies. Her success is a shining example of the positive impact our programme has on the lives of young individuals in our community. We remain committed to supporting her and other scholars as they strive to achieve their dreams,” said Lesego Mosiane, Community Liaison Officer for Matla A Bokone Solar, funders of this programme.
The comprehensive support provided by the scholarship includes tuition, accommodation, stationery, stipends, textbooks, a laptop, administration fees, disbursement costs, and wrap-around support. This extensive assistance ensures that students like Tshepang can focus on their studies and achieve their full potential.
