June 2023.
For the third year running, 1000 Grade 1 learners from across 10 schools in the Sol Plaatje Local Municipal area were delighted to receive brand new school bags. Funded by Matla A Bokone Solar, this support is aimed at building self-esteem among learners and making them feel important, empowering them to succeed academically.
Nono Gumede, Deputy Chief Education Specialist at the Northern Cape Department of Education, expressed her heartfelt appreciation, stating, “It is truly heartwarming to witness the continued commitment that Matla A Bokone continues to make to our children in our schools. For most of these children, this is not just a school bag, but evidence that there is someone out there that is concerned about their well-being.”
In addition to this, this initiative has also contributed to local socio-economic development. By partnering with a local service provider, Matla A Bokone Solar has not only empowered the Grade 1 learners but has also stimulated the growth of local SMMEs, demonstrating their commitment to achieving a double impact and creating sustainable change within the community.
The primary schools benefitting from this programme include: Olympic Primary School, Endeavour Primary School, Greenpoint Primary School, Zingiza Primary School, Boitshoko Primary School, Pescodia Primary School, Masiza Primary School, Mankurwane Primary School, Reneilwe Primary School, and Xhunkhwesa Primary School.
